Amber Infrastructure Group (‘Amber’), the specialist international investment manager, has announced its second Australian infrastructure transaction this month, with its majority owned digital platform, iseek, acquiring a leading South Australian data centre operator, YourDC.
YourDC operates South Australia’s largest ecosystem of carriers, cloud, and managed services with two data centres strategically located to provide convenience and redundancy across the length and breadth of Adelaide. The business provides data centre co-location and connectivity services to a blue-chip customer base of government, defence, education, and multinational enterprise clients, and is the state’s only Tier 3 rated facility.
YourDC’s experienced management team, led by founder and CEO Scott Hicks, will continue to operate and remain invested in the business, ensuring continuity for its large-scale government and enterprise customers.
Amber is the majority owner of iseek, a leading Australian digital infrastructure operator with five purpose-built data centres across Brisbane, Northern Queensland, and Sydney. The YourDC acquisition broadens iseek’s offering, diversifying its geographic, customer and industry profile.
Amber’s growing exposure to Australian digital infrastructure leverages its international digital expertise, which includes investments in European data centre platform Greenergy, and as manager of the UK’s National Digital Infrastructure Fund.
Tristan Evans, Investment Director, Amber Infrastructure, said: “YourDC is a complementary and logical addition to iseek, providing the business with a significant foothold in South Australia’s growing data centre market. In addition to increasing the size, scale, and expertise of iseek’s digital platform, the acquisition represents the start of a stronger national presence providing data centre co-location, cloud and connectivity solutions to government and enterprise customers.
“The acquisition will enable South Australian government and enterprise customers to access a broader array of services, including private and protected cloud platforms through iseek. We see strong growth opportunities for iseek, supported by the industry shift towards outsourced digital infrastructure. This shift is being driven by increased demand for data storage, greater data sovereignty, and the need for data protection in regions prone to natural disasters. iseek is already benefitting from this shift, recently awarded the Queensland Government’s core network data-as-a-service (DCaaS) contract.”
YourDC founder and CEO, Scott Hicks, said: “Our acquisition by iseek will facilitate our next growth phase, expanding our data centre capacity to capitalise on significant market demand and growth opportunities. As founder-led businesses, YourDC and iseek are a good cultural fit and have multiple synergies. Backed by Amber, the acquisition enables us to offer additional digital and co-location services complemented by our superior facilities and world-class customer service.”
The YourDC transaction follows Amber’s acquisition of leading freight rail leasing business Rail First Asset Management in early September.
