MEEF provided finance for an Energy Performance Contract (‘EPC’) at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust with Triodos Bank
THE BACKGROUND
In January 2019, MEEF signed a Second Tranche to Epsom & St Helier NHS Trust for £9.6 million alongside Triodos Bank for an EPC at the Epsom Hospital. Measures include an HVAC system, building controls and a CHP heat network. On completion of the works the measures are forecast to achieve a 21% energy saving and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by c.1,300 tonnes.
MEEF agreed to increase the facility in August 2019 to fund fabric upgrades to the Wells Wing building of Epsom General Hospital, this included an upgraded roof finish and insulation (‘Tranche 2b’) and the installation of a new façade comprising of an external wall insulated render system and replacement new double-glazed uPVC/PPC aluminium windows (‘Tranche 2c’). The combined tranches of funding provide the Trust with a complete building solution maximising energy reduction by combining building envelope and internal measures.
The funds helped to support the regeneration of the hospital when it was on the brink of closure. The regeneration and refurbishment of the hospital will help to improve mental wellbeing of staff and patients.
Breathe were selected as the EPC contractor through the Greater London Authority (“GLA”) RE:FIT programme.
